The United Commissions of the Interior, Southern Border Affairs and First Legislative Studies approved the opinion with a draft decree that reforms and adds various provisions of the Migration Law, with the aim of expanding the powers of various authorities, as well as the human rights of migrants.
With 36 votes in favor of the three Commissions, the document was endorsed, which included approaches from different initiatives to, finally, modify the third paragraph of article 2 and the paragraph
first of article 31 of the Migration Law.
These changes add in article 2 of the law, as principles on which the immigration policy of the Mexican State must be based, the unrestricted respect for the human rights of migrants, national and foreign, regardless of their sexual orientation, disability, social condition or health condition.
Regarding article 31, it adjusts the name of the federal secretariats that can issue an opinion on the establishment or suppression of places destined for the international transit of people by land, sea and air.
