Father Solalinde was arrested for helping the migrants track down their relatives who had been kidnapped by the side of the train tracks hours earlier.
Father Alejandro Solalinde’s shelter in Ciudad Ixtepec provides a welcome rest place for migrants.
Father Solalinde and his team of volunteers watch over the migrants and try to keep them safe from the criminal gangs that operate with the protection, and sometimes even active participation, of local authorities.
Because of his work defending migrant rights, Father Solalinde has been repeatedly threatened and intimidated by local gangs and authorities.
